Wine tasting answer sheet

Host sheet
Host sheet: The answers and the scoreboard. Keep it hidden.

Make the sheets View: A4 · Letter

The host sheet is the answer sheet: one portrait page headed "Host sheet, keep this one hidden". The answers come first, one row per glass with its numbered ring, the wine you typed in or a line for it, a line for the bottle and a price. Under that is the pour line, a sum worked out for your evening, for example 8 guests, 6 wines, 60 ml a taste, one bottle of each. Then the scoreboard, under the label At the reveal: a Guest column and a column per glass for each guest's score, Right guesses at the end and a summary row, Rings filled. The page closes with Tonight's favourite, Best nose at the table, two practical tips and the responsibility line. It suits any blind evening of two to twelve people, and holds one to twelve wines.

Fill it in before the doorbell rings: number the bottles, write each wine against its glass, and fold the page away from curious eyes. During the tasting it stays in your pocket. At the end, go round the table glass by glass, read each guest's score into their row and tick the right guesses, then reveal the wine. The board makes the reveal feel like a result rather than a shrug, and the favourite is simply the column with the most filled rings. Print one copy, plus the bottle tags so the numbers on the bags match the sheet. With more guests than fit on Letter the board moves to a second page on its own. The sheet also reminds you of the essentials: water and a spittoon on every table, taste and spit.

Questions

How do you keep track of the wines in a blind tasting?

Number the bottles before anyone arrives and write which wine is which number on one sheet that only the host sees. At the reveal you read the answers from that sheet glass by glass.

How do you score a blind wine tasting?

Each guest scores every glass on their own sheet and writes a guess. At the reveal, copy the scores onto the scoreboard, count the right guesses, and the table's favourite and the best guesser fall out of the grid.
