Vingo
Vingo: Name the grape in each glass and fill a line first.

Make the sheets View: A4 · Letter

Wine bingo turns a blind tasting into a game anyone can play, because nobody has to describe a wine, only name a grape. Each card is a grid of nine squares, each with a grape name and a ring to write in. The grapes are the bottles you pour, plus decoys of the same colour when you pour fewer than nine, and every card shuffles them into its own order, so neighbours cannot copy a line. It works for two to twelve guests who know a little about wine: enough to tell a Sauvignon Blanc from a Chardonnay on a good day, not so much that the evening becomes an exam. The cards print four to a page and cut apart with scissors. Type in the grape of each bottle and the cards, the host sheet and the reveal cards all agree.

Hide the bottles in bags with the numbered bottle tags, and pour one glass at a time, about 4 cl each. Guests taste, decide, and write the glass number in the square of the grape they think it is. The first full line, across, down or corner to corner, gets a shout of Vingo, and the host reads the answers from the host sheet. A wrong square keeps the game going. Print one card per guest, the host sheet, the bottle tags and, for a little drama at the end, the reveal cards. Six wines take about an hour and a half, with time at the end to argue about the squares nobody got. Keep water and a spittoon on the table: wine bingo is about naming, not finishing glasses.

Questions

How do you play wine bingo?

Pour the hidden wines one at a time. Each guest decides which grape is in the glass and writes the glass number in that grape's square. The first to fill a line across, down or corner to corner shouts Vingo, and the host checks the marked glasses against the answers.

How many wines do you need for wine bingo?

Six to nine, each a different grape. Every card has nine squares, so with fewer bottles the other squares are decoys of the same colour, which keeps the guessing honest.
