Bachelorette wine tasting

Vingo
Vingo: Name the grape in each glass and fill a line first.

Make the sheets View: A4 · Letter

A bachelorette tasting needs a game everyone can join, whatever they know about wine, and Vingo is that game. Each guest gets her own card of nine squares, each a grape name with a ring to write a glass number in. The grapes are the ones in the bottles you pour plus decoys of the same colour, and every card shuffles them differently, so the bride's best friend cannot copy her line. The host sheet keeps which grape is in which glass, and the rules page reads out in a minute. Add place cards if you named the seats, and a keepsake with the date and the bride's name as the headline for the photo. It suits up to twelve guests and six to nine wines, and a mix of grapes that taste clearly different, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Grenache and Malbec.

Bag the bottles with numbered tags and give the maid of honour the host sheet, so the bride can play. Pour one glass at a time, about 4 cl, and give everyone a moment to taste and mark a square. The first to fill a line, across, down or corner to corner, shouts Vingo, the host checks her squares against the answers, and if one is wrong the game carries on. Print a card per guest, cut four from a page, plus the host sheet, the tags and the reveal cards. A Vingo round takes about an hour and a half, so start it well before dinner or the night out. Keep plenty of water and a spittoon on the table: the game is about naming grapes, and the evening is long.

Questions

What is a good wine game for a bachelorette party?

Grape bingo works well because it needs no wine knowledge, only a guess, and it has a winner and a shout. Each guest marks the grape she thinks is in each glass, and the first full line wins.

How many wines do we need for the bachelorette game?

Six to nine, each a different grape, and one bottle of each is enough for up to twelve guests. Choose grapes the bride likes, or one per country you want to visit together.
