A wine tasting placemat with numbered rings
A placemat keeps a tasting in order. Each glass stands on its own numbered ring, so nobody wonders which glass is number three, and the host can pour along the row without asking.
The rings are about 6 cm across, the foot of a standard tasting glass, which decides how many fit: four across A4 or Letter, six across A3. With more wines the rings continue on a second sheet laid beside the first, the numbers running on. Under each ring is its column for the guest's notes: five rings to fill for how much they like it, one word, a guess and what they would pay, with tonight's favourite across the foot.
That makes the placemat Verdetto, the guest sheet of a game with friends, and it comes with everything a host needs around it: the host sheet with the answers and the scoreboard, bottle tags, reveal cards and a keepsake for the end. If you would rather have a plain mat without the writing, for a tasting where people take notes elsewhere, print the glass mat from the blank sheets below: just the numbered rings, and the wine's name under each when you type them.
Lay the mats before the guests arrive, set the glasses on their rings and pour along the row, about 4 cl each. Heavier card from a print shop stays flat under the glasses; at home, ordinary copy sheets work if you keep the water jug off the table. Every sheet is free, in black and white, and the numbers on the mats match the bottle tags and the host sheet.
Verdetto is chosen for this evening; you can swap it on the next screen.
Questions
How many glasses fit on one placemat?
A tasting glass stands on a ring of about 6 cm, so four fit across A4 or Letter and six across A3. With more wines, the rings continue on a second sheet laid beside the first.
Can I print it on A3 at home?
Most home printers stop at A4 or Letter. A print shop prints A3 cheaply, often on heavier card that does not curl when a glass is set down.
Do the guests write on the placemat?
Yes. Under each ring is its column: stars, one word, a guess and what you would pay. A plain glass mat without the writing is in the blank sheets below.
